Eyelid Aesthetics
Eyelid aesthetics, also known as blepharoplasty, is the surgical removal of excess muscle and skin tissue in the upper and lower eyelids. This operation is usually performed to remove excess eyelids that cause a tired, old or sad expression.
Aesthetically, eyelid aesthetics revitalises and rejuvenates the overall expression of the face. By removing excess skin and muscle tissue, the eyes have a more open, dynamic and energetic appearance. This can boost a person’s self-confidence and create a more positive effect in social interactions. It also provides a suitable base for more effective application of make-up.
Functionally, in some cases, excess skin can interfere with the normal function of the eyelids. For example, excess skin on the upper eyelid may restrict the field of vision. Such functional problems can also be solved with blepharoplasty.
The operation is usually performed under local anaesthesia and the duration can vary between approximately 1-2 hours. The recovery period may also vary depending on the extent of the operation. Usually, patients can return to normal activities within a week, but full recovery and results may take several weeks.
